Film actress Pori Moni has been dropped from the guest list of the Chattogram Fashion Vanguard Award 2026 following protests by journalists over her altercation with a journalist in Dhaka and subsequent social media posts.
The organisers decided to withdraw the invitation amid calls for a boycott and protests by journalists in Chattogram against her participation, Khaled Sumon, media coordinator and event partner, told New Age.
The event is scheduled to be held at a community centre in the city’s Khulshi area on November 28.
Khaled said an agreement with Pori Moni to attend the event had been signed 17 days before the November 5 incident involving a journalist at the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court premises.
However, the organisers later decided to remove her from the guest list following allegations of misconduct towards a media worker and protests by journalists in Chattogram, he said.
A revised event poster had also been released following the decision, Khaled added.
Earlier, on Friday, Pori Moni shared the event poster on her verified Facebook account with the caption, ‘See you, dear Chattogram.’
The post drew criticism from journalists in Chattogram, many of whom expressed their dissatisfaction on social media and urged the organisers to reconsider their choice of guests.
The controversy followed an altercation between Pori Moni and a journalist at the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court premises on November 5.
Pori Moni and her bodyguards alleged that the journalist had touched her. The journalist, however, alleged that the actress took away his mobile phone while he was recording a video and damaged his tripod. He later recovered his phone.
