Pakistan and Sri Lanka have opened the Pakistan ODI Tri-Series 2026/27 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, beginning a seven-match tournament that also features England.

The competition, running from October 18 to 31, gives all three sides an opportunity to strengthen their combinations ahead of the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Pakistan Look to Build on Recent ODI Success

Pakistan enter the tournament after winning their most recent ODI series against Australia 2–1. Led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, the hosts have a squad featuring experienced batters Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman, alongside all-rounders Shadab Khan and Saim Ayub.

Fakhar’s aggressive approach at the top of the order and Shadab’s ability to influence the middle overs could prove important during the competition.

Sri Lanka Aim to Challenge the Hosts

Sri Lanka, captained by Kusal Mendis, will be looking to respond after losing their previous ODI series against England 2–1.

Avishka Fernando and Kamil Mishara are among the batters expected to contribute, while all-rounder Dunith Wellalage could play a significant role with both bat and ball.

Although Pakistan have the advantage of playing at home, Sri Lanka will hope their experience in the 50-over format helps them challenge the hosts.

Rawalpindi Sets the Stage

The opening fixture is being played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, where the first innings has historically averaged around 244 runs in ODIs, according to Cricket World’s match preview.

The tournament will begin in Rawalpindi before moving to Lahore for the final stages. The top two teams will qualify for the October 31 final at Gaddafi Stadium.

With Pakistan aiming to make the most of home conditions and Sri Lanka seeking a strong start, the opening match offers both sides an early opportunity to build momentum.
